Journey to Nyx - Intro Decks

Voracious Rage

The "Voracious Rage" deck boasts a horde of powerful and aggressive Minotaurs. Many of these creatures bolster your other Minotaurs and make them truly ferocious in combat. Build up a formidable force, and then smash your opponents down.
Your Minotaurs boost each other in a variety of ways. Ragemonger decreases the cost of all your other Minotaurs, allowing you to swarm your opponents before they can set up their defenses.Kragma Warcaller and Rageblood Shaman make your Minotaurs bigger as well as granting haste and trample, respectively. Felhide Petrifier gives your Minotaurs deathtouch, which allows them to take down an opponent's larger creatures and also works wonders with trample.

Journey into Nyx - Intro Decks

Pantheon's Power

The "Pantheon's Power" deck is based around the constellation mechanic, an ability on enchantments that gives you a benefit every time an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control. Build up an array of constellation cards and watch their power amplify.
The more enchantments with constellation you control, the better each new enchantment becomes. If you control an Underworld Coinsmith when Grim Guardian enters the battlefield, your opponent will lose 1 life and you'll gain 1 life. While you control those, every enchantment you add to the battlefield will drain your opponent for 1 life in addition to its other effects. Add aThoughtrender Lamia, and now your opponent must discard a card along with everything else.

Journey into Nyx - Intro Decks

Fates Foreseen

Scry is a useful ability that gives you control over your future draw steps. The "Fates Foreseen" deck is based around casting spells that give you additional benefits for scrying and setting up ways to scry repeatedly. Link together a chain of these spells and thwart your opponent's best laid plans.
Knowledge and Power is a key card in this deck. Combine this enchantment with cards like Stormcaller of Keranos, and you can take any opponent down from even a high life total. Scrying helps you dig for Knowledge and Power as well as other cards with scry, so it won't be too hard to find the enchantment and keep it firing.
Your ability to control which cards you draw means you're favored to win longer games, so you should be willing to trade your creatures for your opponent's in combat to preserve your life total. A key to winning with this deck, however, is knowing when to switch gears and go on the offensive. Cloaked Siren and Bladetusk Boar are 3-power creatures that are hard to block, and if you get either of them onto the battlefield, you can usually start trying to take your opponent down. Font of Ire, an enchantment that deals 5 damage to a player, lets you finish games suddenly against an unwitting foe.
If you want to experiment with other scry cards, one option is Thassa, God of the Sea from the Theros set. Thassa allows you to scry every turn for no mana, as well as making your creatures unblockable. If larger creatures are a problem, the Born of the Gods burn spell Fated Conflagration can be a great addition.

Journey into Nyx - Intro Decks

Mortals of Myth

Assemble a mighty army of heroic Soldiers and Warriors, and power them up with spells that unlock their potential. Your opponent will be put to the test in combat by creatures that could become gigantic at a moment's notice.
The "Mortals of Myth" deck focuses on getting lots of creatures with the heroic ability on the battlefield and triggering that ability with spells with the strive mechanic, which allows you to pay extra mana to increase the number of targets the spell has. For example, you can use Ajani's Presence to give a single creature +1/+1 and indestructible, or you can wait until the late game and funnel all your mana into Ajani's Presence to give that bonus to multiple creatures. Skyspear Cavalry doesn't have a heroic ability, but flying and double strike make it well-suited to take advantage of this deck's power-pumping spells.
If your opponent is putting up too much of a defense against your onslaught, you have tools at your disposal to help you push damage through. Oppressive Rays, for instance, makes it more difficult for an opposing creature to attack or block. Akroan Mastiff can lock down your opponent's best creature each turn, while Banishing Lightremoves a problematic permanent from the battlefield altogether.
There are many other paths you can explore to power up your heroic army. Launch the Fleet is a strive spell that lets you double your number of troops at a low cost, and it's an especially efficient way to trigger heroic. If you want to really push the aggression, Fabled Hero from the Theros set combines the best of two worlds with heroic and double strike.

The registration for the event will open at 6:30pm and I hope to get things started by 7:00pm at the latest!

The cost will be £17 as normal and for those who have not been before the format will be as follows....

Players will use he six boosters to 'draft' a deck to play in three rounds of a 'swiss' tournament o find the sneak peak champion!

What is Booster Draft Booster Draft?

Booster Draft is a method of play which involves purchasing, opening and building a deck straight away for a game!

Fighters open the packs and choose a card he or she would like to use in a predetermined order (this is known as a “draft”), and decks are built right there and then!

With this unique style, fighters get to experience the thrill of selecting cards, and the joy of playing with a different deck every time!

How to do a Draft?

1. Decide on the seating arrangement around the table with a random method.

2. Each person will open one pack, and check the cards inside that pack.

3. Choose a card and place it face down in front of you. (On you first pick for a pack you will take a trigger unit and one other card) Fighters may not peek at the face down cards.

4. Once everyone has chosen their cards, all fighters will pass the rest of the cards in hand to the person on the left, in a clockwise direction.

5. With the cards received from the fighter on the right, choose a card and place it face down. Once everyone is done, pass the rest of the cards in hand to the left again. Repeat until all the cards have been taken.

6. Between the third and fourth pack, you may check your own face down cards.

Starting from the fourth pack, pass the cards in hand to the person on your
right(anti-clockwise).

7. Once all 6 packs have been opened and passed around, the draft ends. The fight will now begin with the 30 cards chosen and formed as a deck!

Deck building
1. The 30 chosen cards becomes your deck.

2. The rules which restrict only 4 of the same card, as well as only 4 heal triggers in a deck do not apply here.

Game conditions
The basic rules of Cardfight!! Vanguard can be found here:

http://cf-vanguard.com/en/howto/

The rules of a normal cardfight apply, but with the addition of a special rule:

“During a trigger check, if a vanguard or rear-guard of the same clan as the trigger unit is not present on the field, the trigger effects will still activate.”

Therefore, please ignore the clans of the trigger units when choosing cards to build your deck

Lords of War - Weather and Terrain Expansion

New this week is the expansion from Lords of War ...

Which is really two products in one!

First you get the weather expansion which changes the game in so many ways! It brings in some real game changing variables! Basically after both players have played a turn one player will draw two cards from the special weather deck and get a chance to put one into play which will effect both players next turn, after which the other player will get to choose the weather and so on until the game ends! Some of the weather is favourable and other conditions might change you tactics completely!

The second part of the expansion is the terrain deck! This can be played in a number of ways and for the first time we can change the battlefield to include walls, hills, mountains, marshes to name just a few! This means that no two games will ever be the same! Scenario games such as storming the city are now a real option and this set will appeal to the casual social gamer as much as the competitive one!

Both parts of the expansion work really well and make for some fun games, but together the variables are almost limitless!!!

At just £7 this expansion is great value for money! For more details visit the Lords of War Web page!

Lords of War - Templar vs Undead

This weekend I was fortunate enough to go to Salute and help out with the Lords of War stand demoing the new expansion of the game ...

The event offered attendee's the opportunity to have a sneal peak at the game before the Kick Start orders go out this week! I have seen some of the cards and images for the set but this was the first time I had played with either of the decks.
The first of the two decks in the new set is the Templar Deck with its general Father Nicodemus! With an impressive sheild value of 8 he truely is one of the strongest generals in the game. This is high sheild value is something that continues through the rest of the deck and makes the Templars a hard force to defeat if you allow them to get a foot hold on the battlefield. There command cards are all very strong and work well together. The deck also includes 3 'Palisade' cards which have a defences value of 9 and can move during your turn! My personal favourites in the deck however are the 4 'Templar Lancers' which as well as being calvary and hitting of 5 on either the left of right sides has an equally impressive defense value of 6!

The Undead deck has a very different feel to it and the art work for it general is quite simply stunning! Asul The Bygone King also has a high defence just slightly lower than the Templar commander at 7! His attacks are very interesting, doing 4 damage in three different directions including backwards! The undead also have moving units, in fact they have quite a few the Zombie Shambler, Zombie Gnasher and Zombie Halberd all have multipy directions to choose from! At first glance this deck seems to hit quiet low numbers with a lot of units only capable of doing in 1! Its ability to move either before or after combat and the variety of directions it attacks in make a very interesting deck to use and is great fun to play!
The deck also has its calvary units and the Black Riders with there atmospheric art and diagonal attack values of 5 are great finishers that can survive to attack again as they have a sheild value of 5!

All in all both decks provide something a bit different and will work well with the other decks in mercenary armies! They will be onsale from KD Games tomorrow at our weekly gaming evening at £12.99 each and for a short period we will be offering two decks at just £10! (this can be either the new decks or the older ones!) The offer will also go onto our Lords of War Website page which can be found here ... KD Games Lords or War

Tomorrow I will be looking at the Weather and Terrain expansion which is also released this week!
