MTG Changes

Introducing Planeswalker Decks & Bundle

"With the release of the fall set, Kaladesh, on September 30, 2016, we'll be introducing two new product types to Magic: The Gathering.

Planeswalker Decks will serve as a new introductory product, providing a more thematically resonant experience and exciting new Standard legal Planeswalkers not found anywhere else.

We'll also introduce the Bundle. The Bundle offers the same features as a Fat Pack for engaged Magic players plus an additional booster, but the new name more accurately reflects the type of content it offers.

Planeswalker Decks

Planeswalker Decks are designed as the best first purchase for a new player, after they've learned the basics of the game—either through Welcome Decks or Magic Duels—but its features are meant to appeal to experienced players as well.

Beginning with Kaladesh in September 2016, every Magic set will offer two Planeswalker Decks (available in all eleven languages), each built and highly themed around a Planeswalker character relevant to the current block.

Each preconstructed 60-card deck will include:
1 copy of a mythic rare Planeswalker
2 copies of a rare spell that can help find and play the Planeswalker card
And many more cards that benefit from—and synergize with—the Planeswalker card

These decks will generally be two colors, will play into the mechanical themes of the block, often making use of new keyword mechanics, and will be Standard legal.

Two booster packs from the associated block will also be packaged with each deck.

Planeswalker Decks will be available for Open Dueling, beginning with Kaladesh Prerelease, and will provide a similar experience as Intro Pack Wars for new player events.

Eldritch Moon will be the last set that includes Intro Packs.
Bundle

With the release of Kaladesh this September, we will also premiere the Bundle.

We've designed the Bundle as a comprehensive product for engaged Magic players to purchase in order to quickly get to know the newest set.

The Bundle will feature:
A reusable box for card storage
An 80-card land pack
10 booster packs
1 Spindown life counter
Rules reference card
And a Player's Guide that includes an encyclopedia of every card from the current set

The Bundle is aimed at players who have competence in Magic play and are eager to invest in the game on a regular basis.

Eldritch Moon will be the last set that includes a Fat Pack."
